One Route to the Next Client
Inversion thinking — start with failure, work backward. It's the single highest-leverage mental model for decision-making.
When an agency needs clients, it is tempting to build a complicated acquisition system before having a useful conversation. A new website does not introduce you to anyone.
Run one route, in this order. Start with people who already trust you. After the work is good, ask for one specific introduction. Show one short demo tied to that owner's problem. Keep a record. Decide what would make the effort worth continuing before you add a second route.
Start with former clients, former employers, past colleagues, and owners who already know your work. Tell them who the offer helps and which problem it solves.
A specific offer gives them someone to think of. "I run an agency" gives them no one to name.
Ask for the introduction only after you have delivered work they respect. Name the kind of owner you want to meet and the problem you can help with. Ask whether they would be comfortable making the introduction by group text or email. Let them choose.
When the introduction arrives, show one short demo tied to that owner's problem. Walk through the problem, the work, and why it matters to the business. Keep the offer clear. The owner can judge how you think from that explanation.
If the material belongs to a client, get permission before you share it. If you cannot share it, use a demo. Send the demo to the owner you were introduced to. Tie it to the problem you named.
Keep a record of conversations, inquiries, proposals, paid work, and time. Before you add a second route, decide what would make the effort worth continuing. Write that test down.
If attention comes but no useful conversations follow, review the audience and the offer. If conversations happen but projects do not, inspect the buying decision and your follow-through.
Check whether scope, price, deliverables, necessary access, and a start date were confirmed in writing. Check whether the next step was clear. Moving faster is not a reason to skip the agreement or to collect access you do not need.
If you run an agency or consulting business, book a free introductory call through Vedaxi. Bring the offer you sell and the part that is not working.
